About Amy Lauren

If you’re reading this, you probably know me.  If you don’t, then you should :) .

I’m Amy Lauren. I’m from the South, but you wouldn’t know it when I open my mouth to talk.  And no, I’m not sure of what dialect of Southern I speak :) .

I’m 26 years young, but I get asked if I’m old enough to drive or if I’m ditching school. When I bought a lotto ticket at 18, I didn’t get carded, but when I bought one this year, I did!

I grew up in a small town known for basketball and BBQ (Ironically,  I’m a very short vegetarian).  My hometown has three stoplights and no Wal-Mart, but it feels like home and probably always will.

After escaping high school with minimal emotional difficulties, I went to Francis Marion University, where I spent 4 of the most awesome years of my life, majoring in everything but graduating with a degree in Professional Writing.  It was at FMU, as a stressed out college senior, that I fell in love with running around the campus- and I haven’t looked back.

I love distance running and play around (err, cross train) with weights and yoga. A few years ago, I started road racing and my friend Buddy gave me the nickname Tiny Terror. Through distances from a 5K to a half marathon, the nickname has stuck, and I’ve earned a reputation for being very small but very fast. I love to outrun guys and anyone with legs longer than mine.

To make the big girl bucks, I work as a Technical Writer. If you’re interested in technical writing and want to know how I wound up in this field, check out my blog series on my technical writing journey (Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3). I also write restaurant reviews for PeeDeeFoodie.com and occasionally help friends with freelance type projects.

When I’m not writing, I coach cross country and track for the Florence Track Club. I’m a volunteer coach, and I primarily coach young children. While I’m a professional writer, I’m not a professional coach, so just take my opinion for what it’s worth :) .

On March 5, 2011, I married my college sweetheart, Clay. We met in a college anatomy class, and no, we were not lab partners (although the professor occasionally used him as a model for the muscular system).

We’re enjoying married life so far! As for our future, Clay completed his computer science (2nd!) degree and graduated on May 5, 2012. We’re looking forward to settling down, buying a home, going on weekend trips (especially ones that involve me racing) and having a fur baby pretty soon!
