A Very Sweet Five Question Friday

Hey guys! I hope you’re all having a good week. I’m chilling out tonight and getting ready for my 12K race tomorrow. I’ve never done a 12K before, but from what I read, it’s a lot like preparing for and racing a 10K, and since I really like 10Ks, I’m hoping it goes well. I haven’t run since Wednesday, so my legs should be fresh for tomorrow!

And what better way to get ready for a race-filled weekend than by having fun with friends at work? We had a “Sweet Success” celebration today at work to celebrate 3,000 ACS OnDemand clients. My company decorated the break room with balloons, candy, cupcakes, prizes, and other goodies for the celebration. We also had signs up on all the floors and even a big banner outside.

The cupcakes were catered from the Sweet Cupcake Company, which is a new business here in town that sells gourmet cupcakes. They brought many varieties of cupcakes to the celebration, and I had the Snickers cupcake. It was only my second cupcake from Sweet, but it was delicious so it definitely won’t be my last.

The cupcake is a chocolate cupcake topped and filled with a caramel frosting, with crumbled peanuts on top, and since I normally like Snickers flavored everything, I figured I would like it (and of course, I was right!). Even the little “3000″ pieces on top of the cupcakes were edible.

The only thing that could make the cupcake more perfect? Well, maybe it’ll help me finish strong in tomorrow’s race :) . We shall see…

Oh, and winning those M&Ms would be nice…

On another fun note, here’s Five Question Friday.

Five Question FridayFive Question Friday1. How often do you shave your legs in the winter?

I shave them about as often as I do during the summer months- especially this winter, because it’s certainly felt like Spring. I wear shorts on almost every run (and I’ve been running 5 days a week lately), so I really can’t get out of shaving during the winter.

I guess having to shave year-round is the one downfall of living in the South. But not really.

2. Valentine’s Day cards for your spouse: funny or romantic?

If you’ve ever met my spouse, you’d know it *has* to be funny. If it was a romantic card, you can bet I’d write something funny in it or make a snarky comment. That’s just how things work with Clay and I.

3. What are you most looking forward to about spring?

Well, considering it’s been in the 60s and even 70s for most of the past month, I can’t really say I’m looking forward to Spring weather. I’m definitely looking forward to Clay graduating with his Computer Science degree in May (it’ll be his second degree) and finding a job that doesn’t require him to work nights.

4. What’s your favorite way to pamper yourself?

Like most females, I don’t pamper myself nearly enough. I really like getting massages, facials, and pedicures, but I don’t get them that often because of the cost. However, I do keep my nails painted. It’s an easy way to pamper yourself- it takes all of 5 minutes, is cheap, and there’s nothing better than having pretty hands. Plus, it’s not like a haircut that a stylist could mess up- if you mess up your nail polish, you can remove it and start again.

I also really like the sauna and steam room at my gym. Considering I pay out the wazoo for my gym, I really should use the amenities more often…

5. Does your tax return go into savings or do you spend it instantly?

What tax return? I haven’t gotten a tax return in years! Fortunately, I broke even last year and my state return was about equal to what I had to pay in federal taxes. I guess tax time is fun if you get returns, but when you usually have to pay- it’s more of a hassle. I really don’t make *that* much money, but we can all agree that the current tax rates hurt the middle class more than anyone else.

If I am lucky enough to ever receive a tax return, I will spend it because I already save too much :) .

That’s it, girls (and guys, if a guy ever reads!). I hope your weekends are as sweet as my Friday was!

Q1.) What’s the neatest local business you’ve visited lately? Mine would be going to Sweet last Friday to get a cupcake. It’s definitely an interesting shop with a rustic feel and a welcoming atmosphere. The customer service was great too.

Q2.) Is it chilly where you are? It’s definitely colder here than it has been, but our high tomorrow is still in the upper 50s. I was hoping it would be a bit warmer for my 8 AM start time, though.

Q3.) If you work, what’s fun about your job? It’s definitely fun when we have activities like the Sweet Success party today. My job definitely values its employees and put a lot of work into today’s party.

  1. I’m so jealous of your warm weather! Usually we have temps in the 40s and 50s here now with an occasional 60 degree day but it’s been so cold here lately and cloudy which just never happens. So I am definitely looking forward to spring!

I always keep my nails polished too because its quick and low-maintenance and makes me feel good.

    • Amy Lauren says:

Thanks Ashley :) . Honestly, I’m surprised it stays as warm as it does where you live. I always heard Colorado was really, really, cold. But I guess that depends on where you are in relation to the mountains, too.

Good nail polish is a girl’s best friend- really!

  2. That cupcake event sounds “sweet!” Ha sorry had to, I know how lame of me :) Anyway, I am sure the extra bit of sugar will definitely help you in your race today… GOOD LUCK! I think it might be happening as I type this, so I am hoping to hear you are kicking some serious booty haha
It’s pretty chilly here, and supposed to get colder tomorrow! It’s okay though, it is February after all so I expect it to be less than ideal temps

    • Amy Lauren says:

Haha, it’s okay. Their business plays on their name a lot, just because they can :) .

I’m definitely going to thank Sweet for my very SWEET finish today. I’ll have a blog recap of the race in a few days.

It’s actually gotten colder here since the race. I’m glad the race was at 8 AM. I hate early starts but that was actually a blessing. Around 10 the wind started to pick up a little more.

  3. HA! That is too funny! Any relationship I’m in the card also always has to be funny. I’m just not that romantic so can’t be dealing with it. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one though! :)

    1) Neatest local business- CoCo Couture. They make cruffles (aka cake balls). They also make a bunch of other treats.
    2) Chilly. Um on and off. We were in the 70′s a couple days and now we are in the 50′s-60′s. It can’t make up it’s mind.
    3) I work in the home ;) What’s fun, watching the kiddos learn new things or figure something out for the first time.

    Have a great weekend. :)

    • Amy Lauren says:

Hey, being a mom is definitely a job, even hard bc you don’t get a mandatory lunch or 15 minute break like people who work outside of the home.

Cake balls sound really interesting! I had a friend who made cake pops and gave me one once, it was tasty. Our weather can’t make up its mind either and has gotten colder as today has progressed.

  5. Serial says:

You missed out on how much FUN it was to scrub the paint off the windows! We even got outlaw to help. Glad you liked the party!

    • Amy Lauren says:

I was wondering about getting that stuff off the walls. Was it the same thing people use to paint on cars? If so, I totally get how hard it must have been to get it off!

I really enjoyed the party and could tell you guys put a lot into it. Obvs ACS paid for things like the cupcakes but it takes a lot of work to coordinate things like that and trust me, it didn’t go unnoticed ;) .

      Clay liked his cupcake too!
