Way Back Wednesday: Valentine’s Edition

February 10, 2010 at 7:00 am (Way Back Wednesday)

Hello Readers!

In an effort to get more blog posts and figure out what to write about, I have a new theme of sorts.  It’s called Way Back Wednesday.  So, you guessed it: on Wednesdays, I’m going to post something from “way back”.

Since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, I figured I would post pictures from mine and Clay’s first Valentine’s Day together… FIVE YEARS AGO.   He gave me roses and I have a picture of myself with them in a facebook album somewhere (I won’t post it here).  He also cooked me an awesome meal of 4 cheese stuffed shells and we cuddled.

After he gave them to me, I got my roommate to take one of our first ‘couple pictures’, which was taken in our villa apartment at Francis Marion.

Now, not trying to offend anyone celebrating Singles Awareness Day (an equal important holiday, even if it can be abbreviated SAD), I’m going to focus on just how different we look now…

Clay has HAIR. I actually weigh enough to give blood.

November 2009: My boyfriend no longer has hair. I have meat on my shirt but not on my bones...

I’m so glad to be celebrating my 5th Valentine’s Day with him… and hopefully many more to come!  I can just imagine how different we might look like 5 *more* years!

212 Degrees

February 3, 2010 at 5:15 pm (Uncategorized)

So, one of my former coworkers, the great Lesa Hudson, shared this the other day.  Lesa worked here for 14 years and is a really great coworker and person.  I watched the video the day after she sent it, and then watched it again this week.

Everyone needs to watch it- I know I need to give that extra bit of effort, that extra ‘degree’,  sometimes (err… a lot).  It inspired me, so I hope you find it inspiring, too!

13 Things to Do Before I’m 30: January 2010 Update

January 28, 2010 at 10:06 pm (13 Things to Do Before 30)

So, last month, I posted my 13 Things to do Before I’m 30 blog.  I did this because I was inspired my friend Becca’s post, which was 30 things to do before she turns 30. But Becca is also 2 years younger than me, so she has more time to accomplish these :) .

The best way to accomplish your goals is to tell others about them.  Not that I’m that accomplished or anything, but maybe one day I will be.  If you tell others about your goals, it holds you accountable to them- so what better way to tell others than by posting it on this blog for the entire internet to see?

Here’s my progress so far.  I’ll admit- some of my goals haven’t progressed.  Either way, I’ll give you the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Plus, when I actually accomplish any of these goals, I’ll blog about it here.

1.) Research my family tree & genealogy.

I haven’t done anything toward accomplishing this, but one of my friends talked to me about it because he’s researched his family tree, and he gave me a few tips.  So that’s a start.

2.) Train for and run a 10k in an actual race (i.e., not just run 10k one day at the trail).

I’ve actually made a LOT of progress with this.  I found a 10K that’s happening here in town at the end of March, which is about 8 weeks ago.  Then… I went online to look at 10K training programs, and the first one I found was an 8 week program.  I think technology is trying to tell me something there.  I haven’t signed up for this yet, but if something happens and I can’t run in this 10K, there’s a 5K that same day that I can run in- but my real goal is the 10K and unless I get injured or something seriously holds back my training, I’ll do the 10K.

3.) Go on a mother-daughter cruise with my mom.

I mentioned this to my mom one day in the car and her eyes lit up, so I guess that’s a good sign.  If for some reason she doesn’t want to do the cruise, I’d be willing to amend this to a mother-daughter vacation on dry land.

4.) Own a home.  Oh, and actually establish credit.

I got a credit card to try to establish credit.  Before anyone says that a credit card is a bad idea, I will say that I have no student loans and almost nothing in my name, so I had to do *something*. I don’t shop much anyway so I think I’ll be okay.  I plan to use the card for a small purchase or two each month and then check my credit score in a few months.  I don’t like ’stuff’ that much so it’s not like I’m going to max it out.

5.) Donate blood (i.e., meet the weight requirement).

I had an appointment with a sports medicine trainer today, and when I stepped on the scale, I found that I’d actually LOST 3 pounds.  I do work out a lot, I know, but I also eat a TON.  I thought the scale was wrong and made the lady get on it to test it out.  No such luck.

6.) Do a big volunteer project.

Nothing yet.  I had a few ideas and a plan with several other people from my former church, but things fell through there.

7.) Visit the West Coast.

With only 4 days of vacation here at work, this goal is not in my immediate future.  I’ll pursue it in a few years when I have more vacation time.

8.) Learn how to cook- at least a few dishes.

Clay and I cooked some broccoli and cheese soup a few weeks ago, and he showed me a few things.  So, at least that’s a little progress.

9.) Take a random road trip to another state.  AT LEAST another state.

Nothing yet.  Again, very little vacation time.

10.) Take a random road trip to a local place/attraction/museum/person that I haven’t visited.

Nothing yet on this one either, but one idea is the Giant Peach in Gaffney (I think that’s where it is).  Another is South of the Border.

11.) Mentor someone.

Nothing yet, but I have someone in mind to talk to about this, so hopefully I can make it happen sooner than later.

12.) Write letters or a journal to my future children.

Haven’t done this yet.

13.) Conquer that evil software documentation monster!

That monster is always at it, of course, but I’m busy at work with rewriting and as always, trying to make our documentation the best that it can be without sacrificing my own sanity.
